Common Questions
No. Switching providers does not interrupt your electricity service. Your local utility (like Oncor or CenterPoint) continues to deliver power to your home. Only the company that bills you changes. The transition is seamless.
You call your local utility/TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider). In most of DFW, that's Oncor. They maintain the power lines, read your meter, and handle outage restoration—regardless of which retail provider you choose.
Bill credits are discounts that kick in only when you use a specific amount of electricity (often 1,000 or 2,000 kWh). If you use less than that threshold, you don't get the credit and your effective rate can be much higher than advertised. We flag these plans and show you the real cost at your actual usage level.
A fixed-rate plan locks in your energy charge for the contract term (e.g., 12 months). Your rate per kWh won't change. A variable-rate plan can change month to month based on market conditions. Fixed plans give predictability; variable plans can sometimes be cheaper but carry more risk.
It depends on the provider and your credit history. Many providers offer no-deposit plans or prepaid options. We can filter specifically for no-deposit plans if that's important to you.
Yes, but you may face an early termination fee (ETF). The amount is listed in your current plan's EFL. We'll help you calculate whether the savings from switching outweigh the ETF cost—sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it's better to wait.
We may receive a commission from electricity providers when you enroll through us. This does not increase the price you pay—the plan rate is the same whether you enroll directly or through us. Our rankings are based on plan cost, structure, and fit for your usage—not on which provider pays us more.
